Dr Maree Meier’s friendly smile and calming manner, coupled with her broad anaesthesia experience and safe, careful approach bring assurance to patients as she optimises them for surgery.
Her interest areas include ophthalmic anaesthesia, plastic and reconstructive anaesthesia, particularly longer and complex reconstructions, resuscitation and management of trauma, difficult airway management, and doctors’ welfare and wellbeing.
She also ensures her patients receive the very best pre- and post-surgery care.
Dr Meier completed a Bachelor of Arts, Psychology (BAPsych) at the University of Southern Queensland in 1991. She continued her studies at Newcastle University, achieving a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in 1999.
She spent her junior medical training years at the Princess Alexandra (PA) Hospital before completing her anaesthesia training at the PA and Toowoomba Base Hospitals. She undertook an extra year of private intensive care at St Vincent’s and St Andrew’s Hospitals in Toowoomba and a fellowship year in 2008-09 in intensive care at the Mater Hospitals in Brisbane.
She has worked in private anaesthesia since 2009 and has accreditation at multiple hospitals in Brisbane. These include the Mater Hospitals, Greenslopes Private Hospital, North West Private Hospital, RiverCity Private Hospital, Westside Private Hospital, Moreton Day Hospital, Peninsula Private Hospital and East Brisbane Day Hospital.
Dr Meier enjoys the problem solving and procedural nature of anaesthesia and the opportunity it brings to combine medicine, physiology, pharmacology and surgery.
Dr Meier is a member of the Australian Society of Anaesthetists (ASA) and a Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FANZA). She participates in the teaching of junior nursing staff, anaesthetic technicians and medical students. She also collaborates with surgeons to develop systems of care and safety, and patient care information.
Away from work, Dr Meier is focused on maintaining her personal wellness and fitness. She enjoys skiing and travel with the family, food, films and reading. She is an animal lover – and particularly loves the family’s overweight pug Phoebe, boisterous groodle Floyd, and aloof cat Oscar.
